New Delhi: A Delhi court on Wednesday personally produced former Union Minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti in a money laundering case related to the INX media scandal.
Special Judge MK Nagpal Chidambaram was relieved after the plea that his counsel had said that the accused were busy campaigning for the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
The court summoned the accused on March 24 after accepting the supplementary chargesheet filed by the ED.
The court will hear the case on April 16.
Both are star campaigners, their lawyer Arshdeep Singh said.
The court also issued notice to the ED on the bail application of co-accused Peter Mukherjee.
P Chidambaram was arrested on August 21, 2019 by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the INX Media corruption case.
On October 1, 2019, the ED arrested him in a money laundering case.
Six days later, on October 22, the apex court granted bail to Chidambaram in a CBI case.
He was granted bail on December 4, 2019 in the ED case.
The CIB filed a case against INX Media Group in 2007 for allegedly approving the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) to raise foreign funds during Chidambaram’s tenure as finance minister.
The ED then filed a money laundering case.
Karti was arrested by the CBI in February 2018 and was granted bail in March 2018 in the INX Media corruption case.
He was granted interim bail by the Delhi High Court in a money laundering case.
