Neeraj Chopra, Hema Das to start training and competition tour of Turkey to host Tokyo Olympics

In addition to Chopra and associate Olympic-freight clown Shivpal Singh, the country’s relay racers (4 × 100 m and 4 × 400 m, both men and women) will compete in a team of 40, including coaches.

The National Federation said on Tuesday that India’s top track and field athletes, including Marvelin thrower Neeraj Chopra and sprinter Hima Das, will go on a training-co-competition tour of Turkey later this month.

In addition to Chopra and associate Olympic-freight clown Shivpal Singh, the country’s relay racers (4 × 100 m and 4 × 400 m, both men and women) will compete in a team of 40, including coaches.

They are located in Antalya, Turkey and will compete in a few competitions, where some athletes may try to qualify for the Olympics.

Hema, who won silver in the 400m individual and women’s 4x400m and 4x400m relays at the 2014 Asian Games, is set to take part in relay training in the 4400m relay.

Indian relay teams will take part in the World Athletics Relay on May 2 and 2 in Cilicia, Poland.

Adele Sumariwala said, “We have received SAI approval for this training-co-competitive tour of Turkey. It is an army of 40 people, including coaches. We are not getting a training base in Europe for various reasons, so we have decided on Turkey, “said Adele Sumariwala. PTI.

He said, “Athletes will also compete in a few competitions in Turkey and those who have not yet competed in the Olympics will qualify. Opportunities are top notch and the weather there is good.

Indian track and field athletes trained 200 before the 2016 Rio Olympics and then 200 in 2016 in Antalya.

Sumariwala said the AFI was working on issuing visas to the athletes.

“Athletes should travel this month (to Turkey). We need to get a visa first and then book tickets and accommodation. ”

The country’s 4 × 100m and 4 × 400m relay teams will travel directly from Turkey to Silesia, Poland where the World Athletics Relay will be held on 1 and 2 May. The top eight teams in the world athletics relay will automatically qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.

The Indian mixed 4x400m relay team has already qualified for the Tokyo Olympics before reaching the final of the 2018 World Championships in Doha.

The AFI president said, “The 4 × 100m and 4x400m relay teams will travel from World Relay Turkey to Poland. Hema will coach the 4 × 100m relay team.”

Hemer won the third Indian Grand Prix 100m race in 11.67 seconds last month, but was disqualified in the final of the Federation Cup National Championships. He won gold in the 200m at the Federation Cup in a time of 23.21 seconds on 19 March.

Narraj Chopra and Shivpal Singh are expected to attend a meeting of the Diamond League on May 23 in Rabat, the capital of Morocco.

Despite the start of the season, Chopra is in top form. He jointly broke the national record for the third Indian Grand Prix by attempting .0.07m last month.

The Asian and Commonwealth Games champions had another big touch during the Federation Cup national championships last month.
Sumariwala said all the athletes trained abroad would return to India for the national inter-state championships in the Olympic qualifiers to be held in Bangalore in June.

“They can go abroad to take part in the national interstate to prepare for the Olympics abroad,” he said.
