His nearest rival, Khitish Chandra Roy of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), was 869,664,677. He got 6999,6066 votes and won. Roy was defeated by 16,839 votes.
In 2011, TMC held the seat against CPM’s Rabindra Nath Varman. Burma finished runner-up, losing by 4 votes or 4.99 percent.
